What is Biltong?

Biltong is a traditional South African nutrient-dense dried meat snack that offers several benefits when prepared and consumed properly. We want to share some of these benefits with you, especially when Biltong is made with high-quality beef like that used by Biltong USA!

Rich in Protein:

Biltong is one of the most protein-dense foods in the world, often 50–60% by weight. It provides high-quality, complete protein with all essential amino acids, supporting muscle growth, repair, and satiety. 2-ounces (56.5g) of our Angus Biltong provides up to 27g of protein, making it an excellent snack for active people, athletes, or anyone on a high-protein diet.

Micronutrient dense:

Biltong contains essential nutrients, including B vitamins (especially B12), iron, and zinc, which support red blood cell production, immune function, and energy metabolism. For example, beef biltong is a good source of heme iron, which is highly bioavailable, meaning the body absorbs it more efficiently (15–35% absorption rate) compared to non-heme iron from plant sources. Biltong also contains trace amounts of other B vitamins, such as niacin, riboflavin, and B6, which support energy production.

Vitamin B12: 1.0 – 2.0 µg (40 – 80% of daily value) Essential for nerve function, energy metabolism, and red blood cell formation.

Other B Vitamins: Trace amounts of niacin, riboflavin, and B6, supporting energy production.

Creatine: 0.25 – 0.5 g (no official daily value) Supports muscle saturation, strength, and recovery.

Iron: 1.4 – 3.0 mg (10 –20% of daily value) Heme iron, highly bioavailable, supports red blood cell production and prevents anemia.

Phosphorus: 100 – 200 mg (10 –20% of daily value) Supports bone health and energy metabolism.

    I called customer service due to having a problem w/ my teeth (surgery). The person i spoke to suggested I request very thinly sliced product. It came in a timely fashion well packaged. The Wagyu melted in my mouth, it was no trouble for my injury. An exposion of those flavors familiar to me while a new and smooth sensation which made me want to take smaller and smaller bites to enjoy and extend the time I could enjoy the product. Hands down the best jerky/preserved/cured beef I’ve ever had the pleasure to enjoy. I sprinkled some in w/ an omelet and it popped. I look forward to experimentation. TY Anton!
